• The Astral Body

    The idea of the presence of an astral body, separate from the material one, is present in many religious and philosophical traditions. In Plato and Neo-platonism, for example, the astral body connects the individual microcosm to the macrocosm of the universe. The astral body is important is Theosophist thought, and well as in the Rosicrucian one. In Buddhism, the ability to separate the astral body from the material one, using it to travel elsewhere, is considered attainable after reaching the 4th jhana.

  • The Thule Society

    The Thule Society was a German occultist group which emerged in the years following the I World War. One of its major claim was that the "Aryan race" had emerged from the land of Thule, a word that in the agreek and Roman tradition indicated Scandinavia, or more likely simply "the last land" hence the phrase "Ultima Thule". The Thule Societybecame associated with Nazism, and included several famous nazi symphatizers, and they sustained the rise of Nazism to power. However, Hitler himself disapproved of occultism and eventually prohibited all secret and esoteric societies in 1935.

  • Rosacrucianism

    Rosicrucianism, as an esoteric spiritual philosophy and religious movement, spread from Germany to the rest of Europe in the XVI century. It's roots were in Hermetism and alchemic thought. While subsequent persecution from both the Protestant and Catholic Churches led to the disappearance of the original movement, it left a legacy that influenced successive schools, as well as some Masonic factions. Over the last century, Rosicrucian ideas have re-emerged and given origins to two important religious Societies, the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn and the Ancient Mystical Order Rosae Crucis (AMORC).

  • Chimeras

    A chimera, in genetics, is a single organism composed by parts with different genotype. Chimeras can be formed by the merger of multiple fertilized eggs or by mutation. Chimerism is rare in humans but there have been documented cases. Chimeras have been artificially produced by researchers, but the majority of fetuses does not survive.
